 | August 10th, 2009Bringing The Center for Leadership Studies (CLS) Experience To LifeFaced with the universal challenge of creating an online environment that shares real life experiences, The Center for Leadership Studies (CLS) turned to Fathom. CLS and Fathom agreed that letting the students, faculty and sponsors do the talking through video, photos and written stories was the best way to bring the program’s experience to the world.
The Center for Leadership Studies (CLS) accelerates a professional’s capacity to develop leadership skills that typically take years to form. In their quest for a Master’s in Organizational Leadership (MAOL) degree, students submerge themselves into an intensive 18-month program. No two experiences can be compared, as each student’s objectives are directly tied to a personal initiative.
“This program is not the same for me as it might be for someone else,” says Fathom President Brent Robertson, who is currently working toward his own MAOL degree. “It’s educational and transformative for each candidate in a different way, so in designing the website we had to find a way to express that.”
Fathom and CLS met their challenge by investing time in the people who make the program successful. After conducting more than thirty interviews by phone and behind the camera during MAOL sessions, Fathom and CLS constructed photo, written and video stories of students, faculty and sponsors. More accounts will be developed in future sessions, two of which, Spring 2010 and Fall 2010, are forming now.
“In my view, our website could not have been better designed and executed,” says CLS founder and MAOL program designer, Mel Toomey who has worked closely with Fathom since the project’s inception. “This was clearly a team effort and I am grateful to everyone at Fathom for the way they worked together to produce this outcome.”
Future phases of the CLS online presence will continue to focus on bringing the program’s experience into the hands of future candidates, sponsors and faculty. Plans include communication platforms for faculty, alumni and candidates via dedicated wikis and blogs, and audience-specific portals.
